Coomera Connector North - Update
- Posted By David Brown
Work has commenced on the first phase of the Coomera Connector in South-East Queensland, which will act as a "second M1" for the region and alleviate congestion from the M1 Pacific Motorway in southern Brisbane. The $2.16bn project has received $1.08bn each from the Federal and Queensland governments and is expected to support around 1,000 direct jobs throughout its construction, with early works already underway. The first phase, between Shipper Drive, Coomera, and Helensvale Road, Helensvale, has begun construction, while the remaining two phases are in design and expected to start later this year.
Stage 1 North: Shipper Drive, Coomera to Helensvale Road, Helensvale (now underway)
Stage 1 Central: Helensvale Road, Helensvale to Smith Street Motorway, Molendinar (expected to start in later 2023)
Stage 1 South: Smith Street Motorway, Molendinar to Nerang-Broadbeach Road, Nerang (in design)
The project will feature a one-kilometre Coomera River bridge crossing and a four-metre wide shared active transport path. The Coomera Connector is expected to change how Gold Coast residents travel and make journeys between Brisbane and the Gold Coast more reliable. The project is expected to open progressively from 2025.
