Brisbane 2032 OLYMPIC GAMES - A mix of modern and traditional
- Posted By David Brown
The 2032 Olympic Games will make Queensland known worldwide but the region will have to work hard to ensure the success of this event.
The Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner told ABC that the Olympic Games would bring recognition and prosperity to the city, and this will take a huge amount of capacity, money and planning to prepare Brisbane for the Olympic Games 2032.
The Master Plan
This plan includes 3 main centres with 28 events among them.
- 21 venues in Brisbane.
- 7 on the Gold coast and.
- 4 on the Sunshine Coast.
The Gabba of Brisbane will be outstanding as it will host the Athletic events, opening and closing ceremonies, with a capacity of 50,000 spectators and a renovation cost of $1billion. There are some new venues including an Aquatic centre with a seating capacity of approximately 15,000 persons in the Brisbane CBD, also indoor basketball and gymnastic facilities with 12,000 and 10,000 seating capacity respectively, and a Boxing centre at Moreton Bay.
The main athlete’s village will be built at the waterfront estate in Hamilton with living options on Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Kooralbyn near the rowing venue.
The Olimpic Cost
History has shown that the cost of hosting the Olympics Game is very high but Brisbane has an anticipated budget of $4.5 billion. This Budget does not include public transport or new roads, security measures, nor the organising committee staff.
However, Prime Minister Scott Morrison, the Commonwealth and Queensland Government would share the cost and decision on the games and It is estimated that the events will bring in $18 billion for the country.
Olympic City
Apart From building new infrastructures, Queensland will be using existing buildings across the state. Transportation will not be a problem as the major projects like Cross River Rail, Brisbane Metro and the Coomera Connector will be in operation, but public transport to link up the venues will still need to be added. But, more transportation is also needed for the growing population and not just for the Olympic Games in 2032.
Infrastructure improvements, road and public transportation improvements will have to be accelerated leading up to the games, although there are plans to duplicate the M1 to Gold Coast and to Sunshine Coast.
Brisbane’s master venue is a new whitewater centre at the Redlands for Canoeing. Scott Sharples from Paddle Queensland said it would be good for the local’s athletes, and this could be a game-changer for Queensland as the only other centre is in Penrith.
